Bernard Matthews Wins Gold

Rutland is pleased to announce that Bernard Matthews has won the award for ‘Green Initiative of the Year’ at the prestigious Grocer Gold Awards, held recently at the grand Guildhall in London on 9 June.

The category, which covered all aspects of green initiatives within the broad FMCG space, had a strong level of competition including leading nationwide grocer groups.

The company’s winning ‘Big Green Plan’ is a programme of green energy initiatives that will make the company the UK’s greenest farmer and puts sustainability at the very heart of the business. To date the company has already rolled out the largest bio boiler programme in the country, installing over 209 biomass boilers across 30 farms, built 9 large scale wind turbines, over 55 acres of solar panels and is running a number of other wide-ranging energy saving initiatives right across the business.

Rob Burnett, Chief Executive of Bernard Matthews, said: “We are of course thrilled to have won this prestigious award as it endorses and demonstrates our commitment to the environment and recognises the excellent work done by everyone involved in setting and managing our goals as well as building the projects required to launch The Big Green Plan.”

The Grocer Gold Awards were launched in 2003 to celebrate and make a positive statement about the incredible work being done by the companies in the fast moving FMCG sector. The awards are focussed on key business areas such as innovation and customer satisfaction.

David Wingfield, Partner of Rutland Partners, said: “This award win is great news and recognises Bernard Matthews’ commitment to the environment as well as their continuing work in sustainability, which is central to the company’s long term business strategy.”
