Rutland Appoints Andy Powell as Managing Partner

Rutland Partners is pleased to announce the appointment of Andy Powell as Managing Partner with effect from 15 May 2017. This represents a major step in Rutland’s long-term plan for the evolution of its leadership team.

Powell brings a wide range of attributes and experience to complement Rutland’s established and proven experience as a special situations investor in the UK market. He has had a long and successful career in a variety of investment vehicles including head of the London team for Bank of Scotland Integrated Finance, as a founding partner of Caird Capital and, more recently, as a director of family office investor Caledonia Investments.

Powell has extensive experience of transactions across multiple stages and cycles with a number of high profile deals including Vue Entertainment, David Lloyd Leisure, Gala Bingo and, most recently, the exit for Caledonia of Park Holidays.

Following 12 years of leading the business with Nick Morrill as Managing Partner, Paul Cartwright’s role will be changing. Cartwright will remain as a Partner in the firm acting as an advisor to Rutland Funds II and III. He will retain his portfolio board positions and continue to invest in these funds. Powell will be involved in running all aspects of Rutland working alongside Nick Morrill and the rest of the Rutland leadership team; Michael Langdon (Chairman), Mike Harris (Finance and Investor Relations), Ben Slatter, Oliver Jones and David Wardrop.

Chairman, Michael Langdon, commented: “These important changes lay the foundation for Rutland’s future development and we are delighted to have both appointed someone of Andy’s calibre as a senior recruit and retained Paul’s engagement in the business. Andy will bring relevant experience in our chosen area of investing and considerable experience of both the deals market and portfolio management. He is well known in the investing community and will be a strong addition to our business in all areas.”

Andy Powell commented: “I am delighted to join Rutland and excited about the prospects for continuing to develop and grow such a well-established business. Rutland has a great team of people and is ideally placed to build on its successes in special situations investing.”
